Barry
Lazar, producer
Barry Lazar has worked as a journalist and documentary producer for more
than 30 years. He started with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation where
worked in both radio and television programs. He also worked on productions
for the National Film Board of Canada, Spectra-Amerimage, CFCF-TV and
TVO as well as several other broadcasters.
In 1995 he joined Garry Beitel to form Beitel/Lazar Productions Inc which
makes documentaries for television and, more recently, Beitel/Lazar Films
Inc which makes films in collaboration with institutions and non-profit
organizations.
Barry is also well known for his writing on ethnic food in Montreal and
the city's history. His books include Barry Lazar's Taste of Montreal,
Underestimated Importance: la culture anglo-québécoise,
Tea with Mr. George and Other Adventures in Montreal, and The Guide
to Ethnic Montreal.
Since 1997, he has taught several courses in the Journalism Department
of Concordia University.

Barry Lazar travaille comme journaliste et producteur depuis plus que
trente ans. Sa formation comme professionnel commençait avec le
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC – Société Radio-Canada)
ou il a travaillé dans les secteurs de la radio et de la télévision.
Il a aussi assisté à la production de plusieurs documentaires
pour l’Office National du Canada, Spectra-Amerimage, CFCF-TV et TVO,
parmi d’autres diffuseurs.
Depuis 1995, il travaille avec Garry Beitel dans le cadre de leurs compagnies
de production – Les Productions Beitel/Lazar Inc, qui produit des
documentaires pour la télévision et Les Films Beitel/Lazar
Inc, qui produit des documentaires en collaboration avec des institutions
et des organismes.
Barry est aussi bien connu pour ses livres et ses chroniques qui portent
sur les mets ethniques et l’historie culturel de la ville de Montréal,
mentionnons, Barry Lazar’s Taste of Montreal , Underestimated Importance:
la culture anglo-québécoise, Tea with Mister George and
Other Adventures in Montreal, et The Guide to Ethnic Montreal / Le Guide
du Montréal Ethnique.
Depuis 1997, il enseigne plusieurs cours dans le département de
journalisme à l’université Concordia.
